What this site does with your name, email, and membership, and who else sees them.

Who I am

The controller is Gareth Evans, trading as thehardwareguy. Email gareth@thehardwareguy.co.uk. Postal address: Unit 30324, PO Box 92, Cardiff, CF11 1NB.

This notice covers thehardwareguy.com and the addresses that redirect to it (thehardwareguy.co.uk, .net and .org). It is written for a UK audience under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What I collect

  • Account details you type in: first name, last name, and email address. Your password is handled by Wix. I do not see it.
  • Membership details: the plan you choose, the price, whether it is active, and if you have asked to end it.
  • Emails you send to gareth@thehardwareguy.co.uk.
  • A note in your own browser of the last Fusion 360 lesson you opened, so the course can offer to continue there.
  • A session token in your own browser so you stay logged in.

Card and PayPal details are typed on Wix and PayPal’s pages. This site does not receive the card number. I do not run an analytics or advertising account, and I do not buy lists of people.

Why I have it

  • To open your account, take a membership, and show you the Fusion 360 course, the files, and the members’ Discord. The lawful basis is the contract.
  • To keep a record of payments for tax. The lawful basis is a legal obligation.
  • To reply to an email, keep the login working, and remember your place in the course on that browser. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in running the site. Remembering the lesson stays on your device.
  • To stop automated sign-ups, Google reCAPTCHA checks the form when you create an account. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in keeping fake accounts off the site.

Who else sees it

  • Wix hosts the accounts, the membership orders, the checkout, and the downloadable files.
  • PayPal takes the subscription payments, through Wix.
  • YouTube, part of Google, plays the films that are embedded on a page.
  • Google reCAPTCHA runs only when you open “Create an account”. Google receives details about your browser and how you use the form to decide whether you are a person. Its use is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Discord hosts the members’ chat if you choose to join it.
  • Proton hosts the mailbox for gareth@thehardwareguy.co.uk.

Each of those companies has its own privacy notice. Some of them process data outside the UK. I do not sell your details. A partner shop only sees you if you choose to follow its link away from this site.

How long I keep it

The account stays while you keep it. Payment records are kept for up to six years after the last payment, which is the usual period for UK tax records. I delete an email once the matter is finished, unless I need it for that record. The session token and the saved lesson stay in your browser until you log out or clear the site’s data. Logging out ends the Wix session. The saved lesson is only the address of a page.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask me to correct it, and ask me to delete it where the law allows. You can ask me to restrict or stop some uses, and you can object to a use based on legitimate interests. Where the law gives you portability, you can ask for a copy in a common format. To use any of these, email gareth@thehardwareguy.co.uk.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. I would like the chance to put a problem right first.

Children

This site is not aimed at children, and I do not knowingly open accounts for them.
